DAY 10: Challenges, Murder and "Fire"

Image
Today was a mostly relaxed day.A breakfast of cereal, eggs and bacon set everyone up for the day, though it was mid morning before Ben F got his coffee, which was an error on our part! While some of the leaders went shopping all the explorers took part in Crazy88, a Dutch scavenger quiz game that took them exploring around the site and out into Halfweg. After a relaxing lunch the Patrols were back out again, this time putting their best detective hats on solving the clues to uncover the murderer. Once main activities were completed for the day everyone was given free time to relax around site, the jambo boulevard and get showers.  After dinner we had our Subcamp campfire, and while different to the way our normal fires run was still very enjoyable for everyone. A 10:45pm curfew saw most people taking in some of the mokkie disco, but most relaxed on camp before bed. Holly D We made a new friend this morning, we called him Benjamin and we took him to the morning opening ceremony. Pier...

DAY 9: #Skills4Life

Today was a relaxed day since it was Sunday.  The morning saw us attend a Reflection with the full camp, followed by lunch onsite, a formal unit photo and the open house in the afternoon. After dinner some attended the inter-subcamp frisbee finals, others went to the Mokkie and some explorers plus guests played Beetle Drive. And now a surprise entry for the blog today.. Ben F - County Youth Commissioner Sunday 13th August Day 482 - Haarlem Jamborette Woke up to a massive shower queue. With a distinct lack of coffee and beard full of glitter, the decision was made to smell for another day. Cracked open the chocolate cereal and as if by magic 41 kids appeared out of nowhere - looking rather tired and bedraggled. The smell is starting to overwhelm the leaders. After a swift breakfast, we sent them off for a morning of "reflection" whilst we sat and made cucumber sandwiches for the afternoon. Upon their return, following a thorough tent inspection, their next task was assigned. A...

DAY 8: The rain, the sun, the boogie

Today we were on Arts, Craft and Technology.  What hoped to be a relaxing day was made slightly complicated by a huge downpour overnight and during the morning, but when the sun came out it took no prisoners! A very warm afternoon ensued which dried up most of the wet patches leaving just isolated puddles do avoid on site.   In the evening we were invited to participate in a subcamp communal meal, so while we cooked in our camp we took our chilli bowls down to the centre square to sit with other scouts and leaders.  Following this everyone got ready for the glitter and glam theme at the open air disco, with Lauren providing glitter for everyone.  It was a late night but tomorrow is a completely chilled morning with a lie in until 9am! So it was worth it. Hollie, Oli, Sophia & George H Today we were doing arts, crafts and technology. we were on the technology section, however we got switched to crafts on the morning as it was full. it was more of a chill...

DAY 7: Proper tourists

Today was our unit day off, to ensure we didn't spend all our time in ikea and macdonalds we spent the morning at Zaanse Schans, a working Dutch village(their answer to our Beamish) to take in a bit of culture, then had an optional visit into Haarlem for a mini city break. While we had no picture from it, we were lucky enough to be asked to do the Subcamp Flag Break this morning, so it was full uniform (with inspection  beforehand), many thanks to our 12 flack breakers and our guard. James F We enjoyed the audio tour round the museum learning many new and interesting facts about the history of Holland. We then moved on to the machines and how classic chocolates and biscuits were made and what machinery was needed. We then went round the shops inside the windmills, especially having fun in the cheese shop. Finally ending on a little bit of a surprise when I felt a tug on my first aid kit on my belt. After enough pestering and getting my first aid kit ripped by some goat sonny ...
