DAY 9: #Skills4Life
Today was a relaxed day since it was Sunday. The morning saw us attend a Reflection with the full camp, followed by lunch onsite, a formal unit photo and the open house in the afternoon. After dinner some attended the inter-subcamp frisbee finals, others went to the Mokkie and some explorers plus guests played Beetle Drive.
And now a surprise entry for the blog today..

Day 482 - Haarlem Jamborette
Woke up to a massive shower queue. With a distinct lack of coffee and beard full of glitter, the decision was made to smell for another day.
Cracked open the chocolate cereal and as if by magic 41 kids appeared out of nowhere - looking rather tired and bedraggled. The smell is starting to overwhelm the leaders.
After a swift breakfast, we sent them off for a morning of "reflection" whilst we sat and made cucumber sandwiches for the afternoon.
Upon their return, following a thorough tent inspection, their next task was assigned. A simple task you would think... apparently tidying their patrol hovels is easier said than done.
Following lunch the unit donned their yellow lemon-top hats, in anticipation of the campsite open day. During this open day each patrol took turns in serving the public our freshly made, highest quality cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches. (That's 10 cucumbers gone... only another 30, in our fridge, to go!)
The young people were also allowed the time to visit other campers, from across 26 different countries in total, where they were able to sample there wares and cuisines.
Dinnertime... goodness gracious do these explorers need some kitchen skills training! Dinner consisted of Chicken Pesto Pasta and watermelon for desert. During prep, leaders were vigilant to remove whole cloves of garlic and onion skin from the meal.
Then came washing up...Lets just say, practice is needed at home!
After 1.5hrs of washing up the young people were allowed time to themselves, to explore the site and party at the disco with the many other scouts on site.
Its almost bedtime now and all 6 of us are looking forward to getting some well needed rest.
Sleep tight all.
Hollie L Reporting on Yellow's Frisbee Team who made it into the final rounds
yellow vs orange
Yellow had a slightly slow start but wuickily got used to how the oranges played. yellow we’re running circles round the opposite team and already dominated them 4-0 at half time. we got back into play as soon as the second half started, scoring in the second half. the game finished with a 11-0 win for the yellow!
Extract from Pierce Z
Log 1 – 0829:
There's much talk about last night's disco. People have went down to the showers to get their hair cleaned and faces washed of glitter and face glitter.
Log 2 – 0948:
Going down for the flag break
Log 3 – 1001:
The flagbreak involved a flag break and people doing The Bungalow. We're going to the place for the opening ceremony.
Log 4 – 1014:
The people who did the opening ceremony are doing another act for us.
Log 5 – 1123:
Some photographers are coming over and are taking picture of our campsite. We have to tidy up everything in our tents and put the sides up.
(Note that everything wasn't tidy before 😂)
.....
Log 8 – 1223:
It's photo time!
Log 9 – 1228:
The centre pole of our tent is wonky so we have to re-do the whole tent.
.....
Log 12 – 1321:
Everyone's singing YMCA 😂 but there's big clouds coming over. ⛈️
.....
Log 15 – 1354:
Open day involves people going around to other camps and the other camps have to do something to represent the place come from. It is basically a way to mix up cultures.
Log 16 – 1424:
We have been walking around for a bit and the only countries that we've actually talked to are Canada, Canada, Canada, Canada, Canada, Israel and Canada.
We learnt quite a bit of Canadian history of maple syrup American football chocolate and other cool things. the Canadians also have a really fun game that involves pulling things on to pick up things and put them in corners.
Log 17 – 1728:
It is almost time for us to take a shift on our campsite.
Log 18 – 1430:
People are putting down their swops on a Swop Blanket for other people to come trade. Hooray 🎉
Log 19 – 1432:
Significantly gotten colder and darker.
Log 20 – 1433:
Rain is starting to come down but I've just been handed some paracord
Log 21 – 1600:
I've made a really large paracord "necklace" and I'm behind on my logs. To be fair, the only thing that's happened is rain. Few people came to our tent after the rain and the sunshine's been scarce. Right now we're sitting at a table waiting for everyone to return.
Log 22 – 1607:
Everyone's swapping their badges with each other, even though we're all part of the unit.
Log 23 – 1609:
The Canadian neckers are apparently a relic and everyone is looking to swop — or just swap — for them.
Log 24 – 1611:
People in camp blankets have came to swop with us.
Log 25 – 1617:
Our patrol, who unwisely split up, have had neckers signed, a business card and stories with Rico. Everyone knows who Rico.
....
I hope everyone else is having fun.
Signing off, for the last time,
Pierce.
And now for a mix of photos for today

Good Morning Yellow Tops!!! The hats looked great and really made you stand out from the crowd. Some of you again featured in the Reflection Video on You Tube. I guess others were hiding when they saw the cameras approaching. Into the home straight now....enjoy the last few days..... get those swops done with the other groups and help the leaders get over the finishing line.
