DAY 2: Jamboree Check-in Day
We we made it, and what a busy day it has been!
Let’s start first with what happened after our last blog. We had a fairly pain free bus ride up to North Shields Ferry Terminal, with the process through the terminal far easier than an airport!
It was great fun to wave to family onshore as we departed tynemouth, but once the wind picked up we all went inside to shelter from the cold.
Once inside we discovered we were not the only scouts travelling, and after an evening of relaxing, some decided that they fancied the onboard cinema. On exiting the cinema the two groups of scouts ended up with a nice group photo (after a small bit of competitiveness that, I must say, ended up with a Dutch victory)
It was a relaxing and fairly late start to the morning, and after enjoying our breakfast in the onboard nightclub... and a small issue with the passenger gangway..we were soon off the ferry (via the car deck) and in another queue, this time for passport control.
Once cleared, we hopped on our next coach provided by the Jamborette and made the short 30 minute journey to site.
Unfortunately the weather on site was not hugely kind as we were arriving and setting up, so our patrols worked quickly to get their tents up and our mess tent up to have somewhere to shelter.
After lunch they mostly had free time to explore the site in their patrols, they were also introduced to “swopping” for the first time and some are now the proud owners of new badges and neckers. We then started our first tent team cooking with Tent 2 cooking an excellent Nasi Gorang (no mean feat for 50 people).
After dinner the Patrols were given free-time where I am told most decided to check out the international space station disco. But we will let them tell you about that tomorrow.
And as we write this they are all tucked up in the tents chattering away about everything they’ve done and all the things they are looking forwards to. We have a nice early start tomorrow as we are going to Walibi World. So it’s about time we leaders go to bed as well!
Good night!
